This is UCAP’s major annual benefit to raise greater awareness of its programs; and recognize corporate, nonprofit and community leaders, veterans and individuals who have demonstrated exceptional support in assisting UCAP achieve its mission to: 1) alleviate poverty, 2) improve awareness of the needs of low and moderate income residents, and 3) maximize the quality of life for Prince George’s County residents through advocacy, quality services and resources. The following seven (7) awards will be presented:

Proceeds from the silent auction, sponsorships, and ticket sales will help UCAP support the growing number of hungry and homeless people seeking support as a result of unprecedented job layoffs, lack of affordable housing, home foreclosures, lack of government funding, and the persistent rise in food prices and general living expenses.

UCAP is the only designated Community Action Agency for Prince George’s County, Maryland and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP)

Homeownership Group Workshops for 2010

WHEN:Each session is held Saturdays from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM

WHERE:Various Locations in Prince George’s County.*

*Please be advised that locations for NSP training change; therefore pre-registration is required. Please call Nathaniel McDonald at 301.322.5700 ext 107, email: nmcdonald@ucappgc.org, for actual training locations.
For planning purposes, NSP workshops are generally scheduled for the second and fourth weekends each month except months where there are federal holidays

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

This workshop will provide access to foreclosed and abandoned homes through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).

Through this statewide program perspective, qualified homebuyers can receive:

  • Comprehensive homeownership education
  • Assistance with down payments
  • Assistance with closing costs

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

One of UCAP’s main goals is to stabilize households in Prince George’s County. While reports indicate that Prince George’s County MD has the highest eviction rate in the region, it is critical that we provide families with the ability to attain and maintain permanent housing. UCAP is proud to assist residents in securing clean, safe and affordable housing.

Through Prince George’s County’s Security Deposit Assistance Program, perspective, qualified residents can receive financial assistance up to $2000. This is a loan extended to the landlord or property manager and will be returned to UCAP upon termination of the lease. The resident is not required to repay any portion of the security deposit.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a Prince George’s County MD resident
  • Low-to-moderate income households
  • Preference groups include the disabled, veterans, victims of domestic violence, homeless and elderly
    Eligible customers must complete two workshops:
  • Financial Literacy (1 hour)
  • Pre-Occupancy training (1 hour)

Shepherd’s Cove Help the Homeless Mini-Walk

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:

UCAP’s Shepherd’s Cove is hosting a “Help the Homeless Mini-Walk” in support of the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Program. The Help the Homeless Program raises awareness of homelessness and supports organizations working to prevent and end homelessness in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Help the Homeless encourages volunteerism that serves the homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless. For additional information on the Help the Homeless Program click here click here.
