2008 Annual AWARDS Dinner & Silent Auction

On November 20, 2008, the United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) hosted its sixth annual awards dinner and silent auction at Camelot by Martin’s in Upper Marlboro, MD. The event was attended by over 350 guests, including leading business, community and political leaders to recognize and celebrate the contributions of eight individuals and Organizations who are making major differences at UCAP and throughout Prince George’s County.

The program Emcee was Dr. JC Hayward, Vice President for Media Outreach, W*USA 9 News Now. In her opening remarks she stated that “one of the things I like most about my job is that I get to meet great people who are doing great things in their communities -- dedicated and caring professionals like those found at UCAP”. Remarks were given by County Executive Jack Johnson and Prince George’s County Council Chair, Samuel H. Dean presented a Proclamation to UCAP. Special presentations were made by Thomas H. Graham, president, Pepco Region, Government Affairs & Public Policy and Kim Watson, Pepco’s Regional Vice President-Maryland Affairs and Maryland State Delegate Michael L. Vaughn, District 24. Prayer for UCAP and the Awardees was given by Reverend H. Lafayette Dugger, Sr., Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Capitol Heights. The featured entertainer was international recording artist, Marcus Johnson. The inviting prelude music was provided the Mitchellville Community School of Music (MCSA).
